The beginning of our stay in Melbourne:

If sipping on coffee at cafe’s and shopping is your thing, Melbourne is the city for you.  It has everything from high end designer shops to outlets to speciality boutiques.  Not one inch of the downtown core is wasted.  The back alley’s have intimate outdoor cafe’s which are a great place to meet for coffee or a glace of wine.

Our first few days in the city were met with rain and more rain. We decided to get out of the city for a few days and take a tour of the Great Ocean Road.  (For posts on the Great Ocean Road click here).

We stayed at the City Center Budget Hotel – the name says it all.  It’s in between a hostel and hotel.  Nicer rooms than a hostel, but shared bathrooms and a kitchen.  The thing that sold us was the free wi-fi and the central city location which was great for helping us plan out our stay.  Not as social as a hostel, but clean and just as cheap.
